the celtics are good, but KG coming back in full-force is a pipe dream. he's not the player he was two years ago, and he's currently declining faster than winterborne's hairline. they can take orlando, but right now i think i like cleveland in a 7 game series over boston. i think the magic still have the cavs' number though. the east is coming down to the seeding. although, none can compete with a healthy lakers team.

the red sox are an above average team. their infield is good (beltre is the best third baseman in the world), but there are teams with better outfields, which usually plays a bigger part in run prevention.

the pats shouldn't win the superbowl, but stranger things have happened.

but let's not act like the red sox are very different from the yankees. true, the yankees are in their own tier when it comes to spending, but the sox have been consistently #2 and still dwarf the majority of other teams in the league. the fact that both of them own their cable networks makes this possible.

the economics of baseball are fucked, and it's hard to take the sport seriously when star players from other franchises have to be auctioned off or lost in bidding wars because most clubs can't afford to compete monetarily with the big boys. it's bogus.

youre right it does suck. but i dont blame the teams entirely. what about the players and their agents? cant they just play somewhere because they want to play? so take the low cut and play for a team who probably couldnt afford you. but no, agents drive up the prices up to the highest dollar because they know teams in big markets can afford to. players and agents make it unfair and set an example.

umm ok Joba will never be a starter he is a bullpen guy. Hughes hasnt proven shit except in the bullpen. Pettitte is as old as my grandmother and was lucky he had a good season last year at 38 years old (that WONT happen again). Posada is OLDER than my grandmother, he wont play all year and will probably be on the dl a lot. And Cano isnt even good as Cameron.

i will say that tek is way past his prime and it will probably be his last season with us.

and actually, hitting shouldnt be a huge problem this year (as i suggested it would be earlier). Beltre should have 35 homers 115 RBI, Cameron hitting 25 homers 95 RBI, if we keep Youk he'll hit us 30 with 100 RBI, Martinez will hit 30 with 90-100 RBI, Ellsbury will hit 300 and have 70 steals. not too shabby

the pitching staff will be a monster this year. reports are that dice-k is in amazing shape and he's not like a retard like he was last year because he didnt tell anyone about injuring himself in the classic.

i'm totally with you in that i don't blame the yankees or sox (or whomever) for spending the money. that's what they should be doing. the real crooks are the franchises like the marlins ownership who continue to operate with a ridiculously low payroll in order to pocket the money they take in through revenue sharing and other areas. how anyone can support that team is beyond me.

i also don't blame the players and agents for trying to make as much money as they can possibly make.

i think the onus is on the league itself to step up and try to create a more level playing field through salary caps (and salary floors), increased revenue sharing, etc. the nfl is a good example of how to maintain a fair, competitive league.

unfortunately, it's probably going to take another strike to get this to happen.
