I take for granted the fact that I don't care about homosexuals, to the point where the argument between factions who think people make choices and people are born certain ways had slipped my mind as irrelevant, and yet, I still see it pop up here and there when I'm traversing the great expanse of the internet. I have given it a nights thought and come to my own conclusions, but I was wondering what other people currently think of the matter, namely you guys, since you're the only people who will talk to me. I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle. I don't think people are born with anything but an instinctive sexual drive, but I think it must be more of a subconscious preference rather than the sort of choices people make at a mcdonalds drive "thru." I started to think about how I prefer Pepsi over Coke, and I couldn't tell you why, aside from personal taste. Coke isn't terrible or even that different from Pepsi, but I'll choose Pepsi every time, if I have the choice. Then there are issues of sexual identity that complicate the matter, for instance, if a man acts like a woman, looks significantly like a woman and believes he is a woman, should I, as a man who is interested in women, be attracted or repelled? for all intents and purposes, we are talking about someone who is a woman, though the genitalia says otherwise. the native americans took the psychology at its word, and if a man said he was a woman, he was treated as one in all respects. throughout history, different cultures have allowed gay sex to coexist with straight sex without ever making a distinction between people who had one, the other or both. the samurai were known to have gay sex simply because women weren't around, and they didn't question their sexuality. they didn't attempt to put themselves into boxes called hetero and homo, or the vast ring called 'bi.' the american view of these things then seems inadequate. so, what say you, deftones message board? |

The one thing I wonder more than anything is why Prop 8 supporters find it to be such an atrocity that children learn that people are gay. No one even teaches us about regular marriage, but assuming they did teach about gay marriage...how is that going to harm the child??

the more I see of the 'yes' side's argument, the more I am sure that it is entirely homophobic hate speech.
religion is a disease still rampant in america, poisoning the minds of a great many otherwise harmless people, and that is why it is even more important to get to the root of the arguments and start debunking the myths. |

regular coke is better than regular pepsi
however, diet pepsi is better than diet coke. i guess that makes me a bi-soda drinker? |

I cant drink anything with corn syrup in it.
I saw a case of mexican coke at costco, in glass bottles, but I just couldn't commit to drinking a case of coke. |

i dont see why it matters if its a choice or not.
|
|||
|
Commodore LXIV![]() |
it doesn't, to us.
during my time in a protestant brainwashing cult, it was a decisive issue in making sure it was morally right to ridicule and hate those who 'made the choice.' |

it really just freaks me out, hatred towards a group of people because they are what they are, or who they are, or what they look like
i cant relate, there is nothing that could make me understand it. |

so people that were born gay were in?
|

Ive seen several studies that showed differences in the size of certain regions of the brain between men and women. In around 80% gay men the size of these regions is the same as they are in woman and vice versa for lesbians.
The general conclusion is that while sexual prefence does have a genetic and physiological basis, choice and environment do have some influence. Of cource such theories can lead to the idea that homosexuality is some kind of genetic disease that can be somehow cured. |

there were not both, it was either one way or the other, as it often is with these sorts of things.
it's all under the guise of helping people. even the angriest and most hateful person amongst them will revert to an argument of loving and spreading the good word if you press them. |

that just sounds like modern day phrenology to me.

It does a bit, but they were specific measurements of mid brain regions using CAT and MIR scanning as well as autopsy results. |

choice or genetic, I dont really see how it makes much of a diffrence.
a trend I have noticed though in a lot of my gay friends is that they usually either had an asshole for a father or completely lacked a father figure. |

|
Commodore LXIV![]() |
but you do think it is either genetic or a choice?
|
|||

Then you need to get more gay friends...
